Lean Supply Chain
Its Implementation in a globalized environment

OVERVIEW

Industries, both manufacturing and services, are facing extremely challenging times because globalization and consolidation are rapidly reshaping industries as a whole and customers are demanding on better services with reduced cost. The underlying theme in lean thinking is to zero waste and enhancing its competitive advantage and value added service or product. The net effect is a more efficient and responsive supply chain to customer needs. Lean supply chain is the concept of creating value and waste reduction. The seven components of lean supply chain are: Lean supplier, Lean Procurement, Lean Manufacturing, Lean Transportation, Lean Warehousing, Lean Transportation, and Lean Customer. To be lean, companies should first assess their current operation and understand the effectiveness level of their practices. Being lean will require collaboration with all other supply chain entities and it is not a onetime change because it requires ongoing improvements to increase it s effectiveness and efficiency. Two supply chain entities will be discussed in this Lean Supply Chain Seminar : the management side through a strategic partnership and collaboration and the Toyota Way in lean manufacturing.
